Adventure travel company Intrepid Travel is setting a new standard in the industry with its purpose-driven approach to familiarization trips. The company has announced that all fees from its 2025 FAM trips will be channeled directly into local communities through the Intrepid Foundation, resulting in a substantial $12,000 donation to nonprofit projects in Vietnam, Colombia and Portugal.

“At Intrepid, we’re doubling down on impact,” says Laura Hernandez, Head of Partnerships North America, in a press statement. “For agents, it’s about more than just exploring new destinations—it’s about leading with purpose, deepening their connection to the world, and offering clients travel experiences that truly matter.”

Intrepid’s New Initiative

This move has garnered significant attention from travel advisors, indicating a growing appetite for travel experiences that create meaningful impact. The initiative aligns perfectly with the evolving preferences of modern travelers who seek authentic connections and responsible tourism options.

The 2025 FAM trip lineup includes three different adventures. Ten agents will explore Colombia’s coffee culture in April, while another group of ten will travel through Vietnam in May on the Express Southbound itinerary. Both trips will be led by a Key Partnership Manager, a DMC representative and a local guide, ensuring a comprehensive and immersive experience. Eleven agents will experience Portugal’s cultural heritage and sustainability efforts in November, accompanied by a Key Partnership Manager and a local leader.

Every dollar from the FAM fees goes directly to grassroots organizations, maximizing the positive impact on local communities. In Vietnam, the funds support Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, an organization dedicated to rescuing endangered species and restoring critical habitats. Colombia’s beneficiary, Patrulla Aerea Civil Colombiana (PAC), provides essential healthcare services to remote rural communities. In Portugal, Refood 4 Good addresses food insecurity by redistributing surplus food to those in need while reducing waste.
