American Cruise Lines continues its fleet expansion with the announcement of two new ships, American Maverick and American Ranger, set to debut in 2026.
These 125-passenger vessels will be the latest additions to the company’s growing Project Blue series, which focuses on small-ship cruising along the U.S. coasts. Following closely behind the 2025 launches of American Patriot, American Pioneer and the riverboat American Encore, the new ships reflect the company’s commitment to providing a diverse range of fully domestic cruise options.
Cruising the U.S. Coasts
Built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland, both American Maverick and American Ranger will feature five decks and all-suite accommodations on the fourth deck, ranging from 420 to 620 square feet. Each of the 56 staterooms will have private balconies, offering guests ample space to enjoy the coastal views. A standout feature of the new ships is the 5th deck Sky Lounge, which will include panoramic views, the 360-degree Skywalk and an outdoor cafe.
Both new ships will also feature an expansive main lounge and restaurant on Deck 1, with water views from every seat; a Bow Terrace and Horizon Lounge on Deck 3; and an indoor fitness center on Deck 4.
As part of the Patriot Class of ships, these new vessels are designed for smooth coastwise sailing and will expand American Cruise Lines’ itineraries from Maine to Florida. With the addition of American Maverick and American Ranger, the company will operate 24 small ships, solidifying its position as the only cruise line in the world with a fleet entirely under the U.S. flag, offering fully domestic river and coastal cruises.
American’s Project Blue series began with four 100-passenger Coastal Cats introduced in 2023 and 2024. The newest Patriot Class ships, and previously announced American Patriot and American Pioneer ships (expected in 2025), represent the latest iteration in the ongoing series. All 12 Project Blue ships are being built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding, the company’s affiliated shipyard in Salisbury, Maryland.
