Peregrine Adventures, a premium brand under The Intrepid Group, has launched a new trip to Transylvania, Romania, after noticing a 157 percent increase in the demand for travel to Eastern Europe in the last year.

According to the UN World Tourism Organization, Eastern Europe has seen a 273 percent increase among international travelers since the collapse of the Berlin Wall, which is approaching its 30th anniversary.

“Considering overtourism’s increasing impact on local communities, the decision to expand our Eastern European product range for summer aims to spotlight less crowded alternatives to the continent’s hot spots during their peak season.” — Leigh Barnes, Regional Director for North America, Peregrine Adventures in press materials.

Peregrine, which offers small group adventures, is now offering the Secrets of Romania itinerary, which launches June 2018 starting at $2,376 pp. On this itinerary, travelers will experience Transylvania’s signature gothic aesthetic with stops including the modern city of Bucharest, the forests outside Viscri and Count Dracula’s Bran Castle. On this journey, travelers will also tour Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to Vlad the Impaler, whose name was the inspiration for Count Dracula; enjoy a home-cooked traditional Romanian meal at a Viscri resident’s home; get an insight into the communist past and the present-day artistic vibe of Bucharest, which is known at the Little Paris of the Balkans; and take a horse and cart ride with a local coachman through The Woodlands followed by a picnic lunch. The tour includes an expert guide, four-star accommodations, all transfers, various activities, and some meals and taxes.
