Big Sur is celebrating the long-awaited reopening of Highway 1 with an experience designed to engage all the senses—a “scented itinerary” through this rugged coastline.
See Monterey and Brooklyn fragrance house D.S. & Durga have partnered to create a multi-sensory “scented” journey through the destination, taking travelers between Monterey and San Luis Obispo.

Highlights for this roadtrip include the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, with an 80-ft waterfall, redwood groves and prime whale-watching perches; Big Sur Lodge, home to a sprawling outdoor patio that overlooks the Big Sur River; the Andrew Molera State Park, the largest of its kind on the Big Sur coast and sprinkled with tranquil riverbanks, grassy meadows and historic structures; the Nepenthe Restaurant, with its dramatic views of more than 60 miles of the Big Sur Coast; and Deetjens Big Sur Inn, a National Historic Landmark tucked along the edge of a redwood forest.
