Cirque du Soleil Sets Its Latest Show to the Beat of Puerto Rico

A musician returns to Puerto Rico carrying his cuatro, the island’s emblematic instrument, and familiar rhythms pull him back through the people and places that shaped him. That homecoming drives Cirque du Soleil’s LE LO LAI, the company’s first limited-series production created specifically for Puerto Rico. It premieres Friday, Feb. 12, 2027, at the Coca-Cola Music Hall at DISTRITO T-Mobile in San Juan.

Music, rather than spectacle, sets the pace. A live band plays bomba, plena, salsa and reggaeton alongside the acrobatics, and Puerto Rican composer and musical director Angel “Cucco” Peña helped shape the score. The title comes from a refrain in traditional Puerto Rican music that evokes joy, nostalgia and celebration.

The creative team built the show with local collaborators from the start. “With LE LO LAI, we wanted to create something truly unique to Puerto Rico, together with people who call it home,” said Emilie Emiroglou, creative director of LE LO LAI, in a press statement. Danny Lugo is the choreographer, Joshuan Aponte the costume designer and Paloma Suau the cultural advisor.

That local influence carries onto the stage. Vejigantes, a blooming maga flower and a playful Puerto Rican parrot, bring island symbols into the story. The cast of 33 performers includes more than 10 Puerto Ricans, and the show runs about 75 minutes for audiences of all ages.

The production is presented by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company in collaboration with PRISA Presents and No Limit Entertainment. It is also the first production from PRISA Presents, a new platform from PRISA Group created to develop, produce and invest in international experiences. The show is designed to draw residents and visitors who want to discover Puerto Rico through its culture and music, and Discover Puerto Rico will support its international promotion.

The evening is meant to extend past the curtain. DISTRITO T-Mobile and Popular Plaza will host music and culinary offerings before and after each performance. The producers also say they hope to develop partnerships with organizations focused on the arts, music and youth.

The limited season opens with 30 performances on Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. General sales begin Oct. 9 at Ticketera, with tickets starting at $35. Popular customers can access a presale with their Popular Visa card from Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. through Oct. 9 at 11:59 a.m., and Cirque Club members have a presale Oct. 7 and 8.

Prestige and Elite experiences add benefits such as artist meet-and-greets and pre-show cocktails.
