Backroads has announced its debut in Egypt with a new Multi-Adventure Tour launching in 2027.
The new tour has been designed as an active way to experience one of the world’s most storied destinations and will feature an itinerary that combines hiking, biking and kayaking with luxury hotel stays and a multi-day cruise along the Nile River.
The tour will begin in Cairo and travel to Luxor and Aswan, allowing guests to experience Egypt from multiple perspectives and visiting iconic sites while moving through the landscapes that connect them. Highlights will include visiting the Pyramids of Giza, biking near royal tombs and through the desert landscapes of Luxor’s West Bank, flying to Abu Simbel to take in the monumental Ramses II temples, kayaking the Nile while passing ancient temples and riverside villages, and walking in the steps of pharaohs along Luxor’s Avenue of Sphinxes. Along the way, a local Egyptologist will bring Egypt’s past to life, while meaningful encounters with local communities will offer insight into the country’s living culture.
A key feature of the trip is its combination of luxury hotel stays with a multi-day cruise aboard the Sanctuary Serai, a newly built riverboat that debuted in 2026 and the only all-suite vessel on the Nile. Hotel stays will include Mandarin Oriental’s Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan and the Al Moudira Hotel in Luxor, a Relais & Châteaux property and Condé Nast Traveler Gold List honoree.
