This is one of Mexico’s oldest and most magical celebrations, honoring death through joy, flavors and traditions. And this year, Mexico’s biggest cultural event is returning to Sandos Caracol Eco Resort.
Each Day of the Dead, the spirits of the deceased are welcomed during two nights of celebration at Sandos Caracol. On November 1 and 2, 2017, this Playa del Carmen hotel will be hosting a massive cultural event honoring Day of the Dead, an iconic Mexican holiday where those who have passed away return to the world of the living to experience the things they most enjoyed while they were alive. Kids can participate in Day of the Dead crafts and games, and all guests will experience the eerily beautiful magic of this holiday through endless displays and activities. Here, Mexican folklore reigns as live musical groups stroll the resort, authentic Day of the Dead altars are adorned in glittery sugar skulls, local ghost stories come to life in live performances, traditional Mexican snacks and flavors are served from food stands, and awe-inspiring candlelight illuminates the Mexican cemetery.
In the midst of this holiday’s hauntingly ethereal beauty is the famous “La Catrina”, a captivating skeleton character who has come to represent Day of the Dead over the past century. La Catrina wears elaborate gowns and vibrant flowers in her hair or her hat, a stark contrast to her skeletal face, and you’re sure to see many parading through Sandos Caracol throughout this cultural celebration.
