The nine casino resorts in Atlantic City will close at 8 pm, March 16, as ordered by NJ Gov. Phil Murphy as a way to combat coronavirus (COVID-19).

“The time for us to take our strongest and most direct actions to date to slow the spread of the coronavirus is now. All movie theaters, gyms, casinos, and racetracks will close, effective 8:00 pm tonight until such time as it is deemed safe for their re-opening,” says Murphy.

These resorts include Bally’s, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Caesars, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Harrah’s Resort, Ocean Casino Resort, Resorts Casino Hotel, and Tropicana Hotel.

These closings come after a slew of cancellations that included Hard Rock that canceled all entertainment at its U.S. properties for 30 days; Harrah’s closed its Pool After Dark nightclub through March 25; and all Atlantic City casinos installed hand sanitizer dispensers and increased the cleaning of slot machines and other surfaces.

This closure comes at a tough time as Atlantic City has experienced a resurgence as a result of the energy the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and others have injected into the historic seaside destination.
