If you’re thinking of creative ways to keep in touch with your clients after a year of Zoom calls, endless virtual trips, and online experiences, we have one physical experience that can bring Alaska right to their doors.
In an effort to share Alaska during a time of limited travel, Juneau Food Tours has developed a subscription box service that delivers Alaska to consumers’ doors. The boxes are seasonal and feature items from across the state.
These boxes would make for a great little extra touch for those clients who had to cancel a trip to Alaska, someone who maybe was planning a milestone celebration in the destination, or a client who recently booked a big trip to the state and you want to thank them for their business.
“Our goal is to not only deliver the deliciousness of Alaska, but to share artwork, culture and travel information,” says Midgi Moore, CEO of Juneau Food Tours. “We want to help keep Alaska, and specifically the food and culture scene in Juneau, relevant in the travel conversation.”
Moore had planned to launch the subscription box service years ago but instead focused on increasing tour offerings through Juneau Food Tours. On the tours, guests are treated to various tasting locations that highlight the delicious food, intriguing culture and lush green landscape of Southeast Alaska. With the new subscription box, Juneau Food Tours will be able to deliver the exciting feeling of discovering Alaska’s secrets and its edible treats monthly or even year-round.
“We created the boxes last spring to deliver Alaska deliciousness to those who couldn’t come see us. Each box incorporates 5–7 Alaska-made products and supports multiple small businesses,” says Moore. “I work with partners from around the state to find the tastiest items, as well unique pieces such as ulus, handmade jewelry, soaps, etc. We also have boxes for sweets and just launched our Alaska Spa box, which features soothing items to enjoy your quiet time.”
In addition to tasty items, such as smoked salmon, locally sourced tea, spruce tip caramels and kelp hot sauce, the first box will include beautiful photography from award-winning photographer Mark Kelley. Online orders are being taken now and the summer box is expected to ship in early June. The cost is $74.99 for a one-time box or $279.96 for a yearly subscription. Boxes can be ordered annually, which is four seasonal boxes, or individually.
Future boxes will include Alaska game and sausages, smoked salmon roe, ulus and cultural art pieces. Moore’s motto for the new subscription box is, “If you can’t come to us, we’ll come to you.”
