The American Society of Travel Advisors’ (ASTA) Hotel Watch List is now publicly available through June 29. This is a quarterly move the association uses to increase transparency and hold properties accountable for unpaid travel advisor commissions.
The list identifies hotels reported by ASTA members for failing to pay commissions 45 days or more after a client’s completed stay. Normally restricted to ASTA members, the list is made public periodically to highlight recurring payment issues and encourage more advisors to use ASTA’s Report a Hotel tool.
ASTA: 30-Day Notice
Before a property lands on the list, ASTA notifies it in writing and gives it 30 days to resolve the issue through the organization’s business-to-business dispute resolution process. Hotels that pay what’s owed or otherwise settle the matter within that window don’t make the cut.
Since Report a Hotel launched last October, ASTA has recovered more than $45,000 in unpaid commissions on behalf of members—and the organization is pushing further. Its 2026 goal is to recover $100,000 in unpaid hotel commissions while working to standardize payment practices across the industry.
The quarterly public release serves a strategic purpose. When commission delays go unaddressed, advisors absorb the financial hit and the pattern tends to repeat. Making the list accessible to the broader industry puts pressure where ASTA deems it warranted and clearly signals to suppliers that unpaid commissions won’t fly under the radar. Public exposure also helps identify properties with a history of noncompliance, giving the issue a visibility it doesn’t get when the list stays behind a member wall.
For those currently dealing with delayed or missing hotel commissions, ASTA’s Report a Hotel tool is the path forward. Members can use it to document unpaid commissions and initiate the resolution process. The tool is available exclusively to ASTA travel advisor members, and the Hotel Watch List remains publicly accessible through June 29.
