American Airlines is giving travelers another reason to look forward to connecting through Charlotte. The airline plans to open its largest Admirals Club yet at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), with more than 40,000 square feet dedicated to relaxing, dining, working and recharging.

A Bigger Lounge for Charlotte Connections

The new Admirals Club will occupy space in the airport’s atrium on the mezzanine level, putting it in a central location with expansive views of the concourse below.

American is designing the lounge around different types of travelers, with dedicated spaces for dining, working and relaxing. Travelers will also find spa-style shower suites, bars and serveries.

The design will take cues from Charlotte itself, incorporating elements inspired by the city’s tree canopy and textile heritage alongside a more contemporary interpretation of Southern style.

“Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority,” said American Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden, in a press statement. “We’re incredibly excited to bring our biggest Admirals Club yet to CLT, where millions of customers pass through every year.”

More Lounge Options at CLT

Construction is expected to begin this year, but travelers won’t lose access to American’s existing lounge options while the new space is being built. The Provisions by Admirals Club lounge near Gate A1 and Admirals Club locations in Concourses B and C/D will remain open during construction.

The project follows American’s previously announced investment in its Charlotte lounge network, which also includes plans for the airline’s first Flagship Lounge at CLT.

Why Charlotte Matters

Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub, with more than 650 peak daily flights connecting the city with more than 180 destinations in 27 countries. For travelers connecting through CLT, the new lounge will add a substantial premium amenity to one of American’s busiest hubs.

“The plan for our new lounge at CLT represents our continued investment in the customer experience and reflects our long-standing commitment to Charlotte,” said American Senior VP of CLT Operations Ralph Lopez Massas, in a press statement. “Set to become the largest lounge in our global network at one of our most connected hubs, it will give customers an exceptional space to enjoy while showcasing the unique character of our region.”
