Marriott International has reached 300 properties in Mexico, representing more than 44,000 rooms across 25 brands. The company also has 76 additional hotels representing more than 12,000 rooms in its Mexico development pipeline, with more than 10 additional properties expected to open before the end of the year.
“Reaching the 300-property mark in Mexico is a landmark achievement for Marriott International, reflecting the strength of our global brands and the momentum that has positioned us as the leading hospitality company in Mexico with the largest portfolio of open and pipeline hotels,” said Alejandro Acevedo, Regional VP of Development for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America, in a press statement.
“Mexico’s rich travel landscape continues to open new avenues for expansion, and our success in the market is rooted in a locally driven approach, powered by talented teams across development and operations who understand the unique dynamics of the country,” Acevedo continued.
More Luxury and All-Inclusive Options
Mexico’s resort market remains a major focus for Marriott, particularly across the luxury and all-inclusive segments. In June, the company opened The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, Cancun, a 163-room beachfront property near protected mangroves and a barrier reef. In May, Marriott converted The Westin Playa Vallarta into an all-inclusive resort, marking the Westin brand’s first all-inclusive property in Mexico.
Additional coastal openings are also on the way. Casa Nizuc, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, is expected to debut in November, while Marriott has announced plans for a Marriott Hotels all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya through an agreement with BlueBay Group. The company also plans to convert three Reef Resorts & Spa properties—The Reef Playacar, The Reef 28 and The Reef Coco Beach—to Tribute Portfolio Hotels, adding 676 rooms to Marriott’s all-inclusive pipeline and bringing the brand to Playa del Carmen.
Looking ahead, Marriott expects to add properties including Hotel Boca Alameda, Mexico City, Autograph Collection; Delta Hotels by Marriott Chihuahua; and CASAMAYOR Hotel Hacienda, Autograph Collection.
With the expansion, advisors have an increasingly wide range of Marriott brands and destinations to consider when planning Mexico vacations—from established Caribbean and Pacific coast resorts to newer luxury and all-inclusive properties and hotels in emerging regional markets.
What this Means for Advisors
For advisors, Marriott’s expansion gives them more options to match clients with different destinations, travel styles and budgets. Marriott’s luxury and all-inclusive offerings also give advisors a broader mix of experiences and locations in Mexico to consider when planning vacations for clients looking for all-inclusive vacations.
