IHG Announces U.S. Expansion Plans for Ruby Hotels

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the availability of development opportunities in the U.S. for Ruby Hotels, its 20th global brand and the newest addition to its premium collection.

Ruby, founded in Germany in 2013, is positioned as a lifestyle-driven option for cost- and style-conscious travelers. The brand currently has 34 open or pipeline hotels across major European cities, with plans to expand globally to more than 120 hotels over the next decade.

U.S. Launch of Ruby Hotels in Urban Areas

For the U.S. market, IHG will focus Ruby’s growth on major urban destinations, offering owners a range of project types, including new builds, conversions and adaptive reuse.

The Ruby concept emphasizes streamlined design and amenities, focusing on elements that today’s travelers prioritize—such as cozy beds, rainfall showers, premium finishes and quality bath products—while forgoing nonessential extras. Public spaces are designed with local character in mind and feature 24/7 bars offering cocktails and coffee, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both guests and locals.

“Ruby is a brand built for the future of hospitality. Its success in Europe speaks to the growing demand for flexible, lifestyle-focused hotels in highly traveled locations,” said Jolyon Bulley, CEO, Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts, in a media statement. “Ruby’s U.S. introduction will complement our premium portfolio and offer owners a differentiated product with strong economics and scalable growth potential.”

The move reflects IHG’s broader strategy to tap into the “urban micro” hotel segment, which has shown growing appeal to both travelers and developers. By joining IHG’s portfolio, Ruby properties gain access to the company’s global distribution systems, technology platforms and the IHG One Rewards loyalty program.

“Ruby empowers IHG to connect with a new type of traveler—the individualist who values soulful, character-driven premium stays at an affordable price point,” said Lauren Krostue, Vice President, Global Brand Management, in a media statement. “In bringing Ruby to the U.S., we will retain what’s made the brand so special in Europe—including its unique design and operating model—while localizing certain elements to reflect market needs.”

IHG expects Ruby’s U.S. presence to be a key driver of growth, with long-term potential to reach more than 250 global hotels over the next 20 years.
