Palladium Hotel Group has initiated a significant expansion of its Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts in Jamaica, marking a new chapter in the destination’s tourism landscape. The project, spearheaded by Grupo Empresas Matutes, will add 948 new rooms to the existing property, substantially increasing its capacity and introducing new luxury offerings.
“Jamaica holds a special place in Palladium Hotel Group’s global portfolio, and we are confident in the island’s continued tourism potential,” said Abel Matutes, Vice-President of Grupo Empresas Matutes and President of Palladium Hotel Group. “This development highlights our commitment to supporting Jamaica’s economic growth, creating sustainable employment opportunities, and further enhancing the island’s appeal as a premier tourist destination.”
Palladium’s Expansion
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Feb. 18, 2025, was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, Spanish Ambassador Jose Maria Fernandez Lopez, and Abel Matutes, Vice-President of Grupo Empresas Matutes and President of Palladium Hotel Group.
Once operational, the expansion is set to create approximately 1,500 direct jobs, with an additional 2,000 to 5,700 indirect jobs expected across related industries such as transportation, agriculture, and local services.
Sustainability is a key focus of the development. The project incorporates energy-efficient designs, including architectural strategies to reduce heat, a Building Management System for optimized lighting and ventilation and renewable energy sources. Water conservation measures include low-flow fixtures, an intelligent water management system, a seawater desalination plant, and treated wastewater for irrigation.
Palladium Hotel Group’s commitment to Jamaica dates back to 2008, when it opened Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa and Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa in Lucea, Hanover. The group is further investing $20 million to upgrade these properties, expand amenities and incorporate additional sustainability features.
The expansion will introduce two new concepts to Jamaica: TRS Hotels, an adults-only luxury all-inclusive brand, and Family Selection at Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts, offering VIP services and exclusive family amenities. These additions aim to diversify the group’s offerings and cater to a broader range of travelers.
