Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC debuted its Free To Fly Suite this month, celebrating WorldPride’s 50th Anniversary and National Pride Month. This limited-edition suite is available through Oct. 11, 2025, National Coming Out Day.

“The Free to Fly Suite was designed to celebrate love, freedom, and acceptance. At the heart of the room is a gradient butterfly mural, symbolizing transformation, movement, and the beauty of becoming your authentic self,” says Michelle Ison, Designer and Founder of Picnic & Peonies. “Alongside the mural, we incorporated a playful mix of colors and patterns that reflect the vibrant spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. These design choices aren’t just aesthetic—they evoke energy, joy, and the dynamic individuality that the space is meant to honor.”

Kimpton’s Pride

Designed by Washington, DC-based Michelle Ison, founder of Picnic & Peonies, the suite features a rainbow wall mural with 300 handmade silk butterflies and a 6-foot spiral flower-butterfly installation. The decor incorporates subtle nods to LGBTQ+ culture, including references to David Bowie, Oscar Wilde and The Wizard of Oz.

The hotel’s partnership with Bird, a global electric bike-share company, provides guests with a rainbow-bedazzled Spin scooter in the suite. They also receive a daily complimentary single-ride promo code and a curated map of historic Pride sites.

Guests booking the Free To Fly Suite receive a welcome package featuring SuperGay Spirits Canned Cocktails and sweets from The Capital Candy Jar, a local LGBTQ+ owned shop.

Beyond the suite, Kimpton Monaco DC and its on-site restaurant, Dirty Habit, will offer various Pride-themed experiences throughout June. These include complimentary “tiny tattoos” by professionals from NYC’s Tiny Zaps on select dates, a large-scale rainbow butterfly mural in the lobby and artwork by local LGBTQ+ artist Wayne Hollowell displayed in Dirty Habit.

The restaurant will feature a special Pride Cocktail Menu and host two events: Brunch With Pride on May 25, 2025, celebrating DC’s Black Pride and a WorldPride Drag Brunch featuring Alyssa Edwards on June 8, 2025.
