Avanti Destinations Launches “Footprint” Program

As sustainable travel becomes increasingly important to today’s conscientious traveler, Avanti Destinations is stepping up with a new initiative designed to spotlight suppliers making measurable progress toward sustainability. The company has officially launched the Avanti Footprint program aimed at helping travel advisors identify environmentally and socially responsible products within Avanti’s global portfolio.

Through an internal audit process that began in late 2024, the tour operator has vetted more than 400 products—including hotels, tours and transfer services—that demonstrate meaningful commitments to sustainability.

These products are now flagged on Avanti’s travel advisor portal with a distinctive three-leaf green logo, allowing advisors to easily access details about each supplier’s eco-friendly practices.

“Our goal is to have at least 50% of our products on the path to sustainability,” said Alison Atkinson, Avanti’s Commercial Director, in a press statement. “This isn’t just about slapping a green label on something. We’re recognizing suppliers who are taking real, measurable steps—whether that’s through renewable energy use, supporting local economies, or preserving natural and cultural heritage.”

“I want to emphasize that we are not a certifying organization, and that we are not saying that a product is 100% sustainable. But we want to recognize those suppliers who are rethinking how they do business and prioritizing sustainability, not just stating that their product is green, but actually doing something substantive about it,” added Atkinson.

Verified Sustainability in Action

The Avanti Footprint designation is based on a detailed supplier survey and rigorous fact-checking by Avanti’s staff. The initiative acknowledges suppliers who are implementing sustainable practices across a wide range of criteria, from environmental conservation to community engagement and ethical tourism.

Examples of Avanti Footprint-certified products include:

  • St. Ermin’s Hotel (London) – Maintains rooftop hives for 350,000 bees and a kitchen garden that supplies produce for its restaurant.
  • The Albus Hotel (Amsterdam) – Operates carbon-neutrally and holds a Green Key certification, with active efforts to reduce food waste.
  • Palacio del Inka (Cusco, Peru) – Runs a Food Rescue Program that donates recovered food to the Peru Food Bank.
  • Alila Manggis (Indonesia) – An Earthcheck-certified hotel that created a thriving underwater coral garden now supporting local reef life.
  • Ballykilcavan Farm and Brewery Tour (Ireland) – Winner of eight national sustainability awards since 2022.
  • Misminay Cultural Immersion Tour (Sacred Valley, Peru) – Offers guests an authentic, community-based tourism experience with traditional meals, music and storytelling from a high Andean village.

The Avanti Footprint program sets clear expectations for transparency and accountability. Suppliers that have achieved certification from reputable organizations like Travelife, Biosphere, Earthcheck, and others receive additional recognition within the program.
