Windstar Cruises will expand its Mediterranean presence next winter with the introduction of Star Explorer, a new 224-guest yacht scheduled to begin operations on Dec. 28, 2026. This addition to the Star Class fleet brings year-round European sailings with a focus on off-season exploration and local cultural immersion.
“Winter is when the Mediterranean slows down—and that’s when Windstar steps in,” says Jess Peterson, director of destination experience & itinerary planning, in a press statement. “With Star Explorer, we’re offering guests a chance to see these legendary places with fresh eyes and fewer crowds, all in the comfort of our newest yacht.”
Windstar’s Newest
The new vessel enables travel clients to experience popular destinations without summer crowds while enjoying longer port stays and regional winter events. The Star Explorer’s inaugural season features overnight visits in Florence (Livorno), Barcelona and Nice, along with calls at lesser-frequented ports such as Genoa, Catania and Malaga. Seasonal highlights feature Carnevale celebrations in Venice, Epiphany festivities in Greece and winter markets throughout the region.
Star Explorer continues Windstar’s tradition of small-ship cruising with 112 suites, including two Horizon Owner’s Suites that feature wraparound balconies. Guests will have access to signature amenities, including the Yacht Club Cafe and the Marina deck, which offers water activities in suitable ports.
Initial itineraries include a 9-night Southern Spain Winter Escape inaugural voyage, a 7-night Europe’s Winter Riviera sailing, and an 8-night Winter Italy & Dalmatian Coast option. Extended Star Collector Voyages combine multiple itineraries with minimal port repetition and complimentary daily laundry service.
An Early Booking Offer available through July 31, 2025, provides a complimentary All-Inclusive package valued at more than $1,300 per stateroom on 7-day cruises. The package includes Wi-Fi, unlimited select beverages and gratuities. Guests also receive up to $200 onboard credit per stateroom.
Windstar has introduced an additional “Pay Now, Save More” promotion, offering a five percent discount on cruise fares for guests who pay in full at booking.
