Royal Caribbean International is preparing to launch the next chapter in family cruising with the debut of Star of the Seas in August 2025—and the company has tapped none other than music icon Diana Ross to serve as the ship’s official godmother.

Ross will join the cruise line’s longstanding maritime tradition by bestowing her blessing over Star of the Seas, its crew and the guests who will sail aboard her. The celebration will culminate in an official naming ceremony in the ship’s AquaTheater.

Iconic Star, Iconic Ship

“I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” said Ross in a press statement. “Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”

As the second ship in the Icon Class, Star of the Seas will offer clients a vacation experience that features eight immersive neighborhoods onboard that will cater to all ages and travel styles. Features include the Category 6 waterpark, seven pools, entertainment—including Back to the Future: The Musical—and more than 40 dining and drinking venues.

“Diana Ross is the ideal godmother to represent the vibrant energy and legacy we’re creating with Star of the Seas,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, in a press statement. “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together.”

Star of the Seas will sail year-round 7-night itineraries to top Eastern and Western Caribbean destinations from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. Each sailing includes a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas—Royal Caribbean’s private island.

Keep an eye on future developments from the brand, including the debut of Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in late 2025, Royal Beach Club Cozumel in 2026 and Perfect Day at Mexico in 2027.
