AmaWaterways has announced plans to launch a second river cruise ship in Egypt in 2024. AmaLilia, named after Egypt’s sacred blue water lily, will join its sister ship AmaDahlia in sailing the Nile River.

The cruise line cited the overwhelming success of AmaDahlia’s debut season sailing the Nile as the reason for expanding its fleet. “Egypt is one of the most fascinating destinations in the world and we’ve seen such wonderful interest from both our loyal guests as well as new guests since we launched our first ship there in September 2021,” said AmaWaterways’ executive v.p. and co-founder, Kristin Karst, in a press statement. “We look forward to welcoming even more travelers to join us to experience the ancient wonders of Egypt!”

Although AmaWaterways is keeping specific details about AmaLilia under wraps for now, the company did reveal that it will mirror its sister ship in its design, regionally inspired decor and spacious staterooms and suites. It will also sail the same Secrets of Egypt & Nile itinerary, an 11-night combination cruise and land tour that offers passengers seven nights on the river and four nights in Cairo. Guests spend the first three nights in Cairo, visiting the Egyptian Museum and Alabaster Mosque and traveling to Memphis to see the Great Pyramids, before flying to Luxor to board the ship. Passengers cruise the Nile, making stops in Edfu, Aswan, Kom Ombo, Qena and back to Luxor before flying to Cairo, where they will have the chance to see more of Egypt’s capital city before catching their outbound flights the next day.

Further details about AmaLilia will be announced soon.
