Costa Rica reopened on August 1 with new health and safety protocols at hotels and throughout the destination, including a set of 15 protocols designed by the Minister of Health, with the support of the Costa Rica Tourism Board. The protocols unite the efforts of the public and private sector.

As we all saw around the world, nature has flourished during the global lockdown, and Costa Rica, already one of the most sustainable destinations in the world, was no exception. In fact, the destination runs on 99.5 percent clean and renewable energy, and plans to achieve complete decarbonization by 2050. Those looking to travel sustainably and to once again explore the great outdoors will be able to hike one of the country’s 27 national parks or visit a wildlife refuge. The destination is ranked the No. 5 top adventure destination in the world for 2019 by the Virtuoso Luxe Report, and it’s no surprise that here adventure-seekers can enjoy year-round activities like canopy ziplining, surfing, nocturnal tours, whale- and bird-watching, paddleboarding, parasailing and more.
