There’s momentum going into 2022, with Enrique Calderon, COO for Posadas, telling Recommend that this year many properties under the Posadas flag will begin construction and be ready for a mid-2023 into early 2024 debut.
“One of the projects we just announced is the 1,000-key Live Aqua Beach Resort Riviera Cancun and the Grand Fiesta Americana Riviera Cancun. We are starting construction early this year.” Anticipated opening is summer 2023 for both properties.
“Another project that starts construction first quarter this year is the 500-key Live Aqua Beach Resort Playa Mujeres,” he says, adding that it’s set for a winter 2024 debut and will offer 11 restaurants and nine bars. Travel advisors should also look to Puerto Vallarta, where, he says, the group has yet another project—Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta, set to open late 2023, early 2024.
Also on the Pacific Coast, the 60-room Live Aqua Valle de Guadalupe in northern Baja is going to be set in LA Cheto winery, with an opening set for December 2023 and set to feature two restaurants, three bars and a wine cellar. “It’s a very nice spot,” says Calderon. And in the Dominican Republic, “we’re going to start construction on a Grand Fiesta Americana in Bavaro as well as a family-friendly Fiesta Americana in Punta Cana, adjoining the Live Aqua property [that opened in early 2021]. They are going to share the same beach and the convention center, but it’s going to be a separate hotel.”
Posadas has also been busy launching a new brand, Curamoria, a collection of intimate boutique hotels filled with the art, culture and cuisine of the destination in which they reside. The brand, says Calderon, encompasses “very nice boutique hotels. We have five, and our goal is to reach up to 30 in two years (end of 2023). What we’re doing is acquiring hotels that are very unique in certain destinations.” These boutique hotels, he points out, are part of the experience of staying in the destination, not just a property where one plants their suitcases. Properties include the Nuuy Tulum, the Pug Seal in Polanco, Mexico City, La Casa de la Marquesa in Downtown Queretaro and the Hilo Rojo in San Miguel de Allende.
