Windstar Cruises will introduce Wind Spirit to the Canary Islands from November 2026 through January 2027, offering 9-night itineraries. Following the company’s regional debut in late 2025, these enhanced sailings feature more immersive ports, upgraded onboard spaces and new marina access for direct water activities in the Atlantic.
“We’re always looking to craft new itineraries that show off the authentic heart of a destination, and these updated Canary Islands voyages do just that,” said Jess Peterson, Director of Destination Experience and Itinerary Planning, in a press statement. “By adding ports like Porto Santo and El Hierro—places larger ships can’t easily visit—we’re giving our guests a chance to experience a quieter, more natural side of the Canaries, with all the comforts of a Windstar yacht.”
Windstar Firsts
The yacht-style itineraries include first-ever visits to Porto Santo, Portugal—once home to Christopher Columbus and renowned for its golden beaches and hiking trails—and El Hierro, Spain, a UNESCO Global Geopark and the smallest of the Canary Islands.
There are several standout experiences to note: camel rides through Lanzarote’s distinctive dunes, the traditional toboggan run in Madeira followed by local fortified wine tastings, exceptional stargazing in La Palma’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, prime viewing of Madeira’s New Year’s Eve fireworks from the ship’s teak decks and hiking El Hierro’s coastline with volcanic pool swimming opportunities.
The Canary Islands also offer a distinctive Christmas destination alternative, with an average temperature of 73°F. Local holiday celebrations include Christmas Eve (Nochebuena) seafood dinners and traditional Rondallas de los Divinos choral performances in the streets.
Wind Spirit has undergone recent renovations, featuring updated suites, staterooms, a spa, fitness area and dining spaces. The ship will feature Windstar’s marina platform in select ports, providing complimentary paddleboards, kayaks and water lounging directly from the yacht.
