Following the sellout of its first eclipse cruise, Windstar Cruises has announced a second celestial voyage planned for August 2026 aboard the 148-guest Wind Spirit sailing yacht. The 7-night Mediterranean Sunset Eclipse cruise will depart from Rome on Aug. 6, 2026, allowing your clients to witness a total solar eclipse at sunset from an optimal vantage point at sea.“Eclipse cruises are popular because ships at sea can position for clear views,” said Jess Peterson, Windstar’s director of destination experiences and itinerary planning, in a press statement. “Our first cruise to coincide with the 2026 eclipse in Iceland sold out quickly. We then looked at our deployment plans to see what other ships we had nearby the path of totality and the Wind Spirit made sense.”
Windstar’s Second Eclipse Cruise
The Wind Spirit will navigate strategically north of Mallorca, Spain, on Aug. 12 to provide guests with an unhindered view of the horizon as the moon completely covers the sun at 8:30 p.m., just a few degrees above the western horizon. This rare evening eclipse phenomenon will last two minutes and 18 seconds, with the path of totality crossing Spain and Portugal. Passengers will gather on deck for an eclipse watch party, with eclipse glasses provided for safe viewing.
The itinerary encompasses four Mediterranean island ports across Corsica, Sardinia and Menorca. Passengers will explore Bastia, Corsica’s main port, with its historic neighborhoods, 18th-century architecture, central market, citadel and Jardin Romieu gardens. The journey continues to Calvi, a premier Corsican vacation destination surrounded by fortified walls featuring a medieval citadel overlooking scenic beaches. Here, guests can visit local vineyards for wine tastings or explore the reported birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
In Alghero, Sardinia—AKA “little Barcelona”—travelers will discover an old town enclosed by ancient walls with numerous shops and restaurants. This small-ship exclusive destination offers beautiful beaches and access to Neptune’s Grotto sea cave. The final port of call is Mahon, Menorca, known for one of the world’s longest and deepest natural harbors and white sand beaches. Attractions include historic churches, palaces, archaeological sites of the Talayotic culture and Sant Patrici Farm’s famous local cheese production. The cruise concludes in Barcelona on Aug. 13, 2026.
This announcement comes as Windstar celebrates 40 years of yacht-style cruising and prepares for fleet expansion. The 224-guest all-suite Star Seeker will join in December 2025, with sister ship Star Explorer following in December 2026. These additions will bring Windstar’s fleet to eight vessels: five Star Class and three Wind Class sailing yachts, accommodating between 148 and 342 guests. The Star Seeker’s christening is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026, in Miami.
