Allianz Partners’ medical professionals have you covered when it comes to motion sickness. Here are some tips Dr. Eugene Delaune, MD, says to keep in mind to try and avoid it or at the very least alleviate symptoms.

First things first—Dr. Delaune, who advises Allianz Partners’ Assistance Team on critical medical decisions, including managing emergency medical evacuations, providing medical triage with referrals to local medical providers and overseeing ongoing medical monitoring for ill or injured customers of the travel insurance and assistance company, says to pick a window seat near the front of the plane to help in avoiding motion sickness. Why? Because it tends to move around less, and you can focus on the horizon during daylight hours to help mitigate the problem.

No denying that staying well-hydrated is a must if you want to avoid motion sickness, with Dr. Delaune recommending you stick to water and stay away from alcohol and caffeine, which, as we all know, can dehydrate you. And be sure to buy some ginger candies or drink ginger tea as ginger is a natural antiemetic (anti-nausea medication). Something else that might help with the nausea? Benadryl, Dr. Delaune says. But, be warned, because it can also make you dizzy, so, he recommends taking 50mg of Benadryl and getting some rest. And he advises to try the Benadryl at home before taking it on your travels.

To Avoid Motion Sickness Don’t Look Down

And last, but certainly not least—and this might be tough—Dr. Delaune recommends you avoid looking down to read or view entertainment if you don’t want to fall prey to the dreaded motion sickness.
