Southwest Airlines recently announced new international service and a marked increase in departures throughout its network. The new nonstop international options (subject to government approvals) are slated to depart from Orlando, FL, beginning June 4, 2024, to six new international destinations: Cancun, Mexico; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Nassau, Bahamas; Providenciales, Turks & Caicos; Punta Cana, Dominica Republic; and San Jose, Costa Rica. This is in addition to the already existing service from Orlando to Aruba and Montego Bay, Jamaica. The new service means Cancun will be accessible from a total of 17 U.S. markets served by Southwest.

Southwest is Also Expanding Domestically

Southwest is the largest carrier serving Burbank, CA, and effective June 4, 2024, it will expand its service with the addition of service to Boise, Kansas City, Mo., New Orleans, San Antonio and St. Louis. On the same date, the airline will add daily nonstop service between Colorado Springs and Baltimore/Washington.

Summer travel from Dallas (Love Field) and Nashville will receive a boost with seasonal, Saturday-only service. From Dallas (Love Field), there will be flights to Buffalo, Niagara, NY; Fresno, CA; Providence, RI; and Spokane, WA. Southwest is preparing to open a flight crew base in Nashville in 2024 and is launching seasonal, Saturday-only service from there to Bozeman, MT, and seasonal Saturday and Sunday service to Grand Rapids, MI.

In addition to the crew base, Nashville has been a focus of Southwest. Earlier this year, the airport revealed a renovated Grand Lobby and the airline is in the process of relocating its ticket counters to provide a better customer experience for travelers. Southwest is also reinforcing airport infrastructure, increasing available equipment and strengthening overall winter preparedness at the Nashville airport.

Of note: Earlier this month, Southwest announced upgrades to its Rapid Rewards program, making it easier for your clients to earn tier status, rewarding A-List Preferred Members with up to two complimentary premium drinks, and allowing customers to pay for their flights using a combination of cash and Rapid Rewards points.
