Contiki has introduced a new program to cover the cost of first-time passports for 100 U.S. travelers aged 18 to 35 who book European trips lasting seven days or more. This initiative addresses a significant barrier to international travel, as research indicates that more than half of Americans under 30 have never held a passport. In some states, as many as 70 to 80 percent of residents do not possess a valid passport.
“Travel is one of the most transformative experiences a young person can have,” said Toni Ambler, Chief Customer Officer at Contiki. “By covering the cost of a first passport, we hope to make it easier for more Americans to join the global travel community and embark on life-changing adventures. This initiative is about opening doors to new cultures, new friendships and new perspectives that will stay with travelers long after their journey ends.”
Contiki Opens Up the World for First-Timers
The program covers the $165 fee required for a first-time passport application. Eligible travelers can apply by completing a form on Contiki’s website, uploading a passport-style photo and receiving a promo code worth $165 to offset the passport cost.
Contiki has also recently lowered prices on several European itineraries, including multi-country tours such as European Highlights and single-country journeys like Portugal Highlights. The company offers a Pay Over Time option, allowing travelers to secure their booking with a $200 deposit and pay the remaining balance at their own pace before departure.
The passport program and pricing adjustments are part of Contiki’s broader effort to make international travel more accessible to younger travelers. The company’s focus on flexible payment options and reduced costs aligns with trends showing a growing interest in overseas travel among this demographic.
