American Airlines to Launch Summer 2027 Service to Porto

 
 

American Airlines will add Porto to its transatlantic network in summer 2027. The new route will be operated with American’s Airbus A321XLR. In addition, customers traveling to Porto will also have the opportunity to experience American’s Flagship Suite business-class product on this route.

“Porto is exactly the type of new market the Airbus A321XLR enables us to serve,” Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. Znotins added that the airline will share information about new routes later this year and is eager to continue growing its long-haul flights to new destinations, including Budapest, Hungary, and Prague.

A Premium, Long-Haul Product to Match the Destination

American’s Porto flights will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody aircraft that entered service with the airline in December 2025. American was the first U.S. carrier to take delivery of the aircraft. Starting next month, the aircraft will launch a new service to Edinburgh, Scotland, from New York (JFK).

The A321XLR features 20 Flagship Suite seats, which offer fully lie-flat seating, enhanced privacy doors and an upgraded sleep experience. American is rolling out new mattress pads across all long-haul international Flagship Business flights in 2026, along with cool-touch dual-sided pillows, Bang & Olufsen noise-canceling headphones, Nest Bedding-branded slippers, duvets and premium amenity kits.

American will offer Premium Economy seating on the Porto route. Premium Economy includes enhanced winged headrests, calf and footrestsand wireless charging.
