PONANT EXPLORATIONS is opening the door to one of the most elusive corners of the world: the Geographic North Pole.

Beginning in July 2027, the line will introduce a new 12-night itinerary aboard the luxury icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot. The sailing is designed to bring travelers on an extraordinary journey to 90° North—the northernmost point on Earth.

Sailing round-trip from Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, departures are scheduled for July 27, August 8, August 20 and September 1, 2027. These itineraries offer a shorter alternative to PONANT’s longer North Pole voyages, created in direct response to increased demand from the Americas market.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity for Clients

For advisors seeking truly rare experiences for their clients, these North Pole expeditions deliver unmatched bragging rights. Travelers will:

  • Reach the Geographic North Pole (90° North)—a permanently ice-covered and nearly inaccessible point on the planet.
  • Sail through Arctic landscapes, from Spitsbergen’s sculpted fjords to vast glaciers and ice ridges.
  • Spot rare Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, whales, seals, seabirds and Arctic foxes.
  • Take part in immersive activities such as Zodiac outings, kayaking, snowshoeing and even the ultimate polar plunge.
  • Visit Ny-Ålesund, a remote research outpost with ties to early Arctic explorers.
  • Experience both the midnight sun and—conditions permitting—the Northern Lights.

Luxury Meets Purposeful Exploration

Le Commandant Charcot is no ordinary ship. Not only does it push the boundaries of polar navigation, but it also doubles as a platform for scientific research and environmental stewardship. Onboard, guests enjoy PONANT’s signature French flair for hospitality, with an all-inclusive experience that includes fine dining, an open bar, Wi-Fi, and butler service in select suites.

All expeditions include round-trip airfare from Paris to Longyearbyen, transfers and pre/post arrangements. The program is designed for affluent travelers, adventure seekers, and luxury cruisers eager to explore the far reaches of the Earth without sacrificing comfort.
