Hotel Du Pont Unveils Gatsby Garden Retreat

Hotel Du Pont

Hotel Du Pont in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, is offering a Gatsby Garden Retreat celebrating the literary legacy of the storied hotel.

The 217-room Italian Renaissance landmark opened in 1913 and was a historic gathering place for literary figures such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald during the Jazz Age.

The retreat will include a two-night stay in a signature suite as well as two private tours of Du Pont legacy estates — the Hagley Museum & Library and the Nemours Estate — with manicured gardens and landscapes that recall the Gilded Age grandeur of Gatsby’s world.

In-room amenities will include a curated library featuring ‘The Great Gatsby’ and other works by Fitzgerald and his contemporaries and muses, including Ernest Hemmingway, Edith Wharton and Zelda Fitzgerald. Afternoon pick-me ups with fresh flowers will be delivered to the room, reflective of the seasonal blooms found at nearby estates, and leatherbound journals and pens will be placed bedside, encouraging guests to put pen to paper and capture their own thoughts, reflections or stories, as generations of writers have done before them. Guests will also receive a Hotel Du Pont-branded tote bag to take their favorite books home to their own library.

The package also includes dinner for two at the hotel’s Le Cavalier restaurant in the Green Room where Fitzgerald often frequented, as well as a Gatsby Garden-inspired cocktail flight. Specialty drinks include The Daisy Drift, a chamomile, honey and whiskey Sour; the Old Sport, a rosemary bourbon old fashioned; and the So We Beat On, a basil gin fizz.
