The highly anticipated Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is now open in downtown San Diego, marking the brand’s first city-center location on the West Coast.

“After much dreaming and planning, we are delighted to formally open our doors… in San Diego,” said gm Jim Hollister in a media announcement. “With our signature ‘no worries’ easy-going vibe and welcoming service, we look forward to bringing this unique style of hospitality to our beloved city of San Diego.”

Indeed, the relaxing has already begun. Following a nearly $30 million property-wide reimagination, the new hotel has unveiled a distinctly Southern California take on the Margaritaville experience and is now home to San Diego’s largest rooftop pool deck, vibrant and beachy accommodations, flexible meeting and event spaces and—ensuring that no one will be “wasting away” here—three dining and entertainment destinations for sipping and savoring.

Decor, Dining and Drinks Create Beachy Vibe at the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego

Putting a local spin on the Margaritaville look, the lobby is reminiscent of Baja California, with a mission style created by stucco, custom hand-made furnishings from reclaimed wood, and creative works by Mexican artists. Even the brand’s signature margarita glass chandelier is unique to the region, comprised of colorful, eye-catching pieces hand-blown in Mexico.

Extending from the lobby into the halls and common spaces, the design also was influenced by Margaritaville songwriter Jimmy Buffett’s Laurel Canyon days, evoking a new “Summer of Love” with whimsical portraits in the vein of Andy Warhol and murals of classic VW buses stacked with colorful surfboards.
