There’s a definite chill in the air in the Great White North, and Air Canada and Sunwing Airlines are ready to help them warm back up with new and resumed flights to Grenada.
Air Canada has resumed its nonstop service from Toronto now through April 2023, on Thursdays and Sundays. It departs Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) at 9:30 a.m. and lands at Grenada’s Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) at 3:55 p.m.
Meanwhile, Sunwing Airlines started its nonstop, year-round service on Sundays, also departing Toronto. The flight leaves at 10:15 a.m. and lands in Grenada at 4:35 p.m.
“Canada is our fourth largest market with an average length of stay of 12 days. Arrivals from that market were significantly impacted as Canada was one of the last markets to fully open back up for travel,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, in a press statement. “We are pleased that the Canadian government has now relaxed restrictions on non-vaccinated Canadian citizens to travel. Our team in Canada has been working diligently with travel advisors and tour operators, on exciting co-op campaigns and incentive schemes and feedback from operators is that future loads are quite healthy.”
Infrastructure Improvements to the Airport in Grenada
The Maurice Bishop International Airport is currently undergoing a major refurbishment project. According to Dennis Cornwall, Minister for Infrastructure and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation and Transportation, in order to meet the present and future travel demand for Grenada, it will include resurfacing and expansion of the airstrip to facilitate a more spacious landing for aircraft and increasing visibility by adding lighting to the landing point.
The seat capacity from Canada for 2023 will be 27,745, which represents a 52 percent increase over 2019.
