AmaWaterways is offering travelers an opportunity to upgrade to a higher category stateroom with its new Stateroom Upgrade Program. Whether your clients prefer a private balcony with panoramic views or a more spacious suite, AmaWaterways’ program gives travelers a chance to bid for a suite upgrade on select sailings.
The new program also provides travel advisors with an increase in their earnings through a 10 percent commission on approved upgrades.
Upgrade Options on Select River Cruises

The stateroom upgrade program is available to U.S. guests across all ships in Europe, Egypt and the Mekong, following its soft launch aboard the AmaMagna. Allowing guests the opportunity to enhance their river cruise journey with an upgrade, guests who have already reserved a river cruise can now participate in an online auction system to request and bid for stateroom upgrades.
Eligible guests will receive an email 85 days before sailing, detailing the available upgrade options. They can then browse these options and place bids for the amount they are willing to offer at least seven days before departure. Placing multiple bids for different categories increases the chances of an upgrade, though only one accepted bid will be charged.
A key feature of the upgrade program is its no-risk bidding process. If a bid is accepted, guests, and their travel advisors, are notified via email and charged for their upgrade bid. If the bid is not accepted, guests retain their original stateroom without additional costs.
