Contiki’s newest launch, Garden Route and Addo, is the dream road trip, with eight days of beaches, safaris, and vineyards. This is the first time the brand will take its famed coach travel experience for a spin around the block in Africa, making the most of South Africa’s diverse Garden Route as it hits caves, coastal towns and the Cape.

Travelers, ranging in age from 18-35, will be taken on a journey of happy surprises, with the possibility of spotting the Big 5 on a game drive in Amakhala, guaranteed gentle giants at Addo Elephant Park, whales and dolphins on an ocean safari, and the biggest birds in the world in Oudtshoorn, the planet’s “ostrich capital.” On Garden Route and Addo, the unexpected is less likely a flat tire than it is a pack of lions.

Other facets of the trip are educational, such as the Township Tour, during which explorers are educated on the long-term effects of apartheid and learn about the Xhosa culture through music and dance. More is to be discovered at the South African Shark Conservancy, where guests learn about the country’s surrounding oceans and their mighty inhabitants.

Relaxation rounds out the trip, with a visit to the wine farm town of Stellenbosch, its quaint markets and fine vino awaiting perusal and tasting, respectively.
