G Adventures has revealed details of its first Christmas market trips in Europe, visiting festive markets in Germany and Austria.

The new tour has been created as a result of the increased interest Americans are showing for travel to Europe, when compared to pre-pandemic booking levels.

The Christmas in Central Europe itinerary visits some of Central Europe’s most famous markets, including Hellbrunner Christmas Market in Salzburg – home to more than 700 decorated Christmas trees – and Germany’s Nuremberg market, which is celebrated as one of the oldest markets in the world.

“The 2020 holiday season was tough for many, with COVID-19 restrictions keeping friends and family from spending time together. This year, with travel restrictions loosening a bit, we’re excited to launch these new festive tours to help travelers recapture the spirit of the season,” said Ben Perlo, managing director of US and Latin America, G Adventures, in a press release statement. “We’re also seeing a significant increase in interest, and bookings, for tours in Europe with double the number of Americans booking this past August compared to August 2019, so our new Christmas market tours are well-timed to capture both the pent-up travel demand and the desire to celebrate the holiday season.”

The four departures run from late-November to the end of December, and the week-long tour begins in Berlin, where travelers will visit sites such as Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island, sample traditional Bratwurst, and visit the Christmas markets in Gendarmenmarkt square.

The itinerary will then stop at Nuremberg, where travelers can sample Nuremberg Lebkuchen, a traditional German cake that is similar to gingerbread, before exploring the fairytale-like stalls and old-fashioned carousels of the city.

Next is a visit to Vienna, where travelers can enjoy coffee and cake in Viennese coffee houses, sip warm mugs of Glühwein, and visit landmarks such as the Vienna State Opera House and take in the view from the top of St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

The 7-day trip starts from $1,649 per person, not including international flights, and can also be taken in reverse with the Christmas in Central Europe – Vienna to Berlin tour priced from $1,749 per person.

The Christmas in Central Europe trips are part of G Adventures’ new Vaccinated Tours program which requires all travelers, and the group’s chief experience officer (or CEO), to be fully vaccinated at least 14-days before the tour departs.
