Nobu is taking its hotel and restaurant concept to Puerto Rico for the first time. Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan, an intimate luxury property with 50 guestrooms, is scheduled to open in 2028 in one of the Caribbean’s most recognized historic destinations.
The brand is pointing to San Juan’s centuries of history, distinctive architecture and cultural heritage, along with its galleries, dining scene and celebrated waterfront. “Puerto Rico has long been one of the Caribbean’s most compelling destinations, celebrated for its rich history, vibrant culture, and exceptional hospitality. Bringing the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant to San Juan allows us to become part of one of the region’s most storied neighborhoods while introducing our distinctive approach to hospitality in a destination that continues to attract discerning travelers from around the world,” said Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, in a press statement.

The property will place a signature Nobu restaurant and bar at street level, with a rooftop lounge and bar above. Real estate and hospitality developer KTT is part of the project, and Joakim Lehmkuhl, KTT’s managing partner, noted in a press statement that the investment fits the city. “Few places in the Caribbean combine culture, history and energy the way San Juan does. Nobu saw the same thing, and that shared understanding is what makes this work. This reflects the kind of investment we believe the city deserves. Nobu’s hotel and restaurant will bring the brand’s design, cuisine and hospitality to San Juan, adding to its reputation as one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive destinations.”
Design will balance local character with the brand’s own style. The hotel is meant to reflect San Juan’s heritage while introducing Nobu’s contemporary aesthetic and understated approach to luxury. The company describes the atmosphere as a blend of the old city’s energy and the calm, refined feel found at every Nobu destination.
Your clients can expect thoughtfully designed accommodations and service inspired by the Japanese spirit of omotenashi, along with world-renowned dining and curated experiences tied to Puerto Rico’s culture and character.
What This Means for Advisors
If you’ve visited Old San Juan, you know a small-format, 50-guestroom luxury hotel fits well into this ancient city’s aesthetic. Adding a street-level bar and restaurant, plus a rooftop lounge and bar, is also spot on and reflects the chic lifestyle of Puerto Rico’s residents. The brand’s choice of San Juan opens the door for clients who already know Nobu from other destinations to feel comfortable booking Nobu if they’re new to Puerto Rico.
