Boat Bike Tours offers a unique travel concept that combines cycling adventures with comfortable barge accommodations along Europe’s scenic waterways. The Magnifique barges, launched between 2016 and 2024, are the cornerstone of this experience, with a new addition planned for 2026.

Boat Bike Tours: From Cargo Ships to Experience Barges
These vessels, once cargo ships transporting goods such as stone and grain, have been transformed by master shipbuilder Walter van Berkum into floating hotels that accommodate 32 to 40 guests. Their smaller size allows access to charming town centers and narrow waterways that larger river cruise ships can’t reach.
Each of the Magnifique barges offers a unique layout, providing various accommodation options from suites with French balconies to twin and single cabins. All rooms include private bathrooms and air conditioning. Common areas include lounges for daily ride briefings, bars crafted from sailboat sections and sun decks equipped with hot tubs.
Daily itineraries revolve around cycling excursions through picturesque countryside. Guests set out after breakfast in small groups, while the barge moves ahead to the next mooring point. The slower pace of travel allows for authentic interactions with local culture and the natural environment. Tour leaders guide riders to historic towns, castles, museums and local attractions such as cheese farms. Both standard bikes and e-bikes are available for these adventures.
When returning to the barge, guests are greeted with refreshments and homemade treats. Evenings often include guided walks through the town where the barge is moored.
Breakfast onboard features a European buffet with a variety of options. Lunch is typically packed for the day’s ride, though stops at local cafes are also possible. Dinners showcase the chef’s skills with 3-course platings, international dishes, seafood feasts and barbecues on the sun deck. Most dietary preferences can be accommodated.
In 2026, Boat Bike Tours will introduce a new Magnifique barge, elevating their current standards. This addition will coincide with a new Amsterdam-to-Paris itinerary.
