Intrepid Travel has released a new resource for travel agents focused on sustainable tourism. The 12-page handbook, titled “How to be a champion of change: An agent’s guide to understanding sustainable travel,” seeks to give travel advisors the tools to effectively communicate and market responsible travel options to clients.

“We created this handbook after hearing from travel agents that there’s a lack of resources available that break down what sustainable travel actually is and to empower them to then explain this to their customers,” said author Dr. Susanne Etti, Intrepid’s Global Environmental Impact Manager, in a press statement. “Agents truly have the power to influence their clients’ choices and we want to help them be the best that they can be and to make a difference.”
“We hope that by providing this resource, we can inspire agents to add sustainability to their toolkit of skills, empower their clients and become champions of change,” added Etti in the statement.

The guide includes factual information, product examples and clear definitions to help advisors navigate sustainability discussions. It’s designed to be a practical tool for demystifying eco-friendly travel concepts.

This handbook joins Intrepid’s collection of open-source sustainability resources. In 2023, the company released a guide on developing carbon labels and calculating trip emissions, following updates to their office and trip emissions methodology.

As a certified B Corp, Intrepid Travel has consistently taken steps to address climate issues and shares its expertise to encourage industry-wide collaboration and progress.

“With all the conversation surrounding sustainable travel, an agent’s work can become even more complex. However, armed with resources like this guide, we can inspire a new generation of travelers to make informed decisions and contribute to a brighter future for our industry,” said Michelle Degenhardt, Global Sustainability Officer at Flight Centre, in a press statement.

The handbook is now available for download through Intrepid Travel’s Newsroom and Agent Hub platforms at no cost.
