The park houses a rich diversity of fossils providing great insight into one of the more important Triassic periods. Its impressive rock formations of red sandstone are the result of water erosion in a desert climate.
In northern Catamarca province, Campos de Piedra Pómez dazzles with its desolate and labyrinthine landscape of white volcanic rock. Over 5,000 rock formations are concentrated in an area of about 40 sq. miles. The area’s inhospitable climate and more difficult access make it a great option for die-hard adventurers.
Wildlife enthusiasts can head to the Iberá Wetlands in the northeastern province of Corrientes, one of the most important freshwater reservoirs in South America and the second largest wetland in the world housing about 30 percent of Argentina’s biodiversity with 4,000 species of flora and fauna.
