Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa 2
The first time I reported on German-born Hapag-Lloyd Cruises—several years ago after sailing with the first Europa—I called it the best cruise line American vacationers had never heard of. Now there’s Europa 2, and it’s highly likely that travel consultants and their clients are hearing quite a lot about Hapag-Lloyd thanks largely to a lively marketing campaign.

Parks & Recreation = Family Travel Highs in Costa Rica
“If any destination is tailormade for family travel, Costa Rica is it.” I wrote that sentence in Recommend’s Costa Rica Specialist Program based on just looking around during many years of traveling in this family-friendly nation. Last July was time to sample the product: The Hunt family traveled in an Adobe Rent a Car’s 4x4 to a trio of kid-friendly wild places: Tortuguero National Park (three nights), the Sarapiqui region (two nights), and Monteverde National Park (three nights). Perhaps a trip report on what worked (most things) and what didn’t (just a few) will be helpful in client trip planning.

Turtle Bay Resorts' The Point Surf Break.
Turtle Bay Resort
When Del Webb’s Kuilima Resort Hotel & Country Club debuted on Oahu’s surf-centric North Shore in 1972, the famed developer hoped to hit the jackpot by tacking on Hawaii’s premier casino. This trend of sidestepping a sense of place continued for decades as the renamed Turtle Bay Resort fortified internally rather than embracing culture and beauty beyond its gate.
