If you’re booking clients on the cruise adventure of a lifetime to see the 2024 solar eclipse at sea, know that Holland America Line is upping the ante on its 2024 Solar Eclipse cruise program by inviting a bevy of astronomy experts to join its guests next spring. This means your clients will not only be able to experience the eclipse firsthand, but they’ll also have lectures, demonstrations and tips on how to make the most unforgettable memories.
“We’re positioning our ships in the perfect location for guests to see the eclipse,” said Bill Prince, vice president of entertainment for Holland America Line, in a press statement. “For many, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so being able to receive the guidance of a renowned physicist like Dr. Burgasser is an exciting opportunity for our guests. We’re known for creating immersive programming, and this will be an unforgettable live event.”
Holland America Line’s Stellar Lineup
The Koningsdam will sail off the coast of Mexico with a special guest aboard, University of California San Diego Professor Adam Burgasser, who will be with them for the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse. Burgasser is a professor of astronomy and astrophysics, an observational astrophysicist, and the principal investigator at the university’s “Cool Star Lab,” and will offer special lectures and help guests construct their own eclipse viewers, guiding them on how to view this phenomenon safely. According to Burgasser, this is the first total solar eclipse in North America in seven years, and the ship’s position off the coast of Mexico is the best place to observe it. The 22-day Solar Eclipse Cruise begins on April 5, departing San Diego to position itself along the coast of Mexico to view the eclipse before crossing the Pacific to Hawaii, eventually disembarking in Vancouver, Canada.
Meanwhile, the Zaandam will depart on its 14-day Solar Eclipse Cruise roundtrip from San Diego on March 30, arriving in Mazatlan, Mexico, on eclipse day. Guests will be accompanied by Jim McParland, who will offer lectures and demonstrations before and during the eclipse.
