Silversea Shares Updates on New Hotel in Chile

Silversea has revealed new details about its property, The Cormorant at 55 South, a 150-room hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, scheduled to open for the 2025/2026 Antarctica cruise season.

The Cormorant at 55 South is named as a tribute to the Yahgan word “Lakutaia,” meaning cormorant—a seabird symbolic of travel and exploration. The property is designed to reflect the rich culture, history and natural landscapes of Puerto Williams and Patagonia.

The Southernmost Hotel in the World

The hotel will offer two distinct room types: one with views of the surrounding forests and another facing the Beagle Channel. All rooms will feature expansive windows to maximize natural light and showcase panoramic vistas. Interiors will incorporate locally inspired design elements, including handcrafted pieces by regional artisans.

Silversea’s goal is to enhance the overall travel experience for Antarctica cruise passengers. With a dedicated staff trained in “The Silversea Way,” guests can expect high-touch service before they even step aboard the ship. The hotel will play a central role in Silversea’s Antarctica Fly Cruise program, which allows guests to bypass the Drake Passage by flying directly to the continent—saving time while maintaining a full expedition experience.

In conjunction with the hotel announcement, Silversea has launched a new multimedia content series titled Stories by Silversea. The first episodes—Embrace the Unknown and A Legacy in the Making: Part 1—are now live, offering behind-the-scenes looks at the development of The Cormorant and other brand stories.
