Now families can take part in their own version of the gladiator games at Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts. Guests participating in the Gladiator Training program will wear tunics and learn ancient gladiator techniques with authentic weaponry. The trainings last two hours, depending on the strength of the pupil, and can take place in either one of the hotel’s meeting rooms, on the property’s 150-acre private Mediterranean park, or at the Gruppo Storico Romano school, which partners with the hotel. Those visiting the gladiator school can reenact the battles in the arena; there is also a small museum at the school with a collection of antique swords and shields used by real gladiators.
The gladiator school is open to children over 7, and offers a mini-gladiator kit for kids under 10 that includes a helmet, shield, sword, and red gladiator cloak, starting at $127 pp. Rates for groups up to eight start at $689 through Rome Cavalieri’s concierge, or $413 when booked through Gruppo Storico Romano.
