Continued port closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled Windstar Cruises to cancel all of its Star Breeze cruises in Asia scheduled for fall 2022.
The Star Breeze will instead extend its Alaska season before sailing from the U.S. West Coast to Tahiti.
Seven scheduled itineraries on the all-suite Star Breeze will be cancelled. These include a planned crossing of the Pacific from Alaska to Japan, a pair of Grand Japan sailings and the Island Hopping through Japan cruise.
The Windstar Crew Hometowns: Philippines and Indonesia, Hidden Indonesia & the Great Barrier Reef, and Edge of the Outback trips also are cancelled.
“As Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines and South Korea are all currently still closed to cruising, Windstar joins several other cruise lines in making this decision to cancel cruises in Asia for fall,” said Windstar Cruises President Christopher Prelog in a press statement.
Star Breeze will instead add an itinerary, Alaskan Splendors, in late August. West Coast Epicurean Extravaganza, a trans-ocean voyage from San Diego to Tahiti, will follow, then five sailings in French Polynesia.
It’s hardly Windstar Cruises’ first venture to Tahiti, however. This fall, the cruise line will mark its 35th anniversary of cruising to Tahiti. Star Breeze and Windstar’s Wind Spirit will both take part in anniversary celebrations, with special events planned during their visits.
Following the summer season, Star Breeze will depart Tahiti on Nov. 11 for Sydney, Australia. Following a chartered cruise, the ship will make its first commercial cruise in Oceana, departing Dec. 4 on the Tasman Sea Treasures: New Zealand Fjords & South Australia itinerary. The cruise will visit small ports like the obscure Middle Percy Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
