Walt Disney World Resort is set to undergo a significant transformation across all four theme parks. The expansion, announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, promises to bring new attractions, lands and experiences to the resort and will debut between 2025 and 2027.
Magic Kingdom Park will see its largest expansion in history, starting with a reimagining of Frontierland. A new “Cars”-themed area will replace the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, featuring three new attractions, including an Indiana Jones adventure and an Encanto-themed ride. A new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, will debut in the summer of 2025.
Beyond Big Thunder Mountain, an all-new land dedicated to Disney Villains is in development. This multi-acre expansion will include two major attractions, dining and shopping options. Walt Disney Imagineering is pushing creative boundaries to bring this dark and mysterious land to life.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a new 11-acre land called Tropical Americas is under development. This area will feature Pueblo Esperanza, a lush town with a large fountain, open-air market and a hacienda that will serve as one of the largest quick-service restaurants at Walt Disney World. Imagineers drew inspiration from research trips to biodiverse areas in northern South America and Central America.
Additional Expansion at Disney
The expansion plans also include new attractions and entertainment across EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, welcoming a Monsters, Inc.-themed area with the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney park.
EPCOT’s Test Track will be reimagined, celebrating the evolution of mobility, while Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios will feature a new Millennium Falcon mission with the Mandalorian and Grogu. New lounges, including a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern in Magic Kingdom and a Spaceship Earth-inspired lounge at EPCOT, are also planned.
These developments represent a significant investment in the resort’s future. The phased implementation of these projects ensures that your clients will continue to enjoy existing attractions while anticipating new additions. As work begins on these expansions, Disney emphasizes that visitors will have ample time to experience the current offerings before implementing changes.
