Alaska Airlines has inaugurated daily nonstop service between Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Tokyo Narita Airport aboard Hawaiian Airlines’ Airbus A330 widebody aircraft, marking the carrier’s first long-haul operations from its Pacific Northwest hub.

Beginning Sept. 12, 2025, the new connection will join an expanding roster of international routes that already includes nonstop flights to Seoul Incheon, launched on the same date, and a total of 104 destinations across North America. Seattle offers the shortest trans-Pacific crossing at 4,730 miles to Tokyo, which is 7 percent closer than the San Francisco–Tokyo sector and 13 percent shorter than the Los Angeles–Tokyo.

“Our growing fleet of widebody aircraft, which includes the flagship 787 Dreamliner, unleashes a world of possibilities of where we can fly to from Seattle. Looking ahead, we’ll have exciting additional milestones as we share the new international routes we’ll be launching in the coming years, including destinations in Europe, as part of our plans to serve at least 12 international destinations with widebody aircraft from Seattle by 2030,” said Ben Minicucci, Alaska Airlines’ CEO.

Alaska Airlines’ Partnership Upgrades the Trip

The A330 cabins are configured with Business Class featuring full-flat seats, a choice of three elevated entrees blending Japanese and Hawaiian flavors plus vegetarian options, and two desserts, with mid-flight snacks and a second hot meal before arrival. Extra Comfort and Main Cabin service include two complimentary hot entrees, ice-cream dessert choices, snacks and a pre-arrival meal. Complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi enables video streaming, gaming or remote work at high speeds, while every seat in Business and Extra Comfort provides power outlets. Amenity kits in partnership with the Hawaii lifestyle brand Noho Home are offered in all cabins, and Business Class guests receive full bedding complete with a mattress pad, duvet, pillows and slippers, with kit components selected for sustainability. Onboard entertainment features nearly 200 feature films, over 500 television episodes and curated Hawaii-focused content under Hana Hou! TV and Hawaiian Skies categories.

The new route highlights Seattle’s emergence as the West Coast’s leading global hub and reinforces Alaska’s collaboration with Hawaiian Airlines. HawaiianMiles members can link accounts for reciprocal status benefits on both carriers.
