Grenada’s tourism industry has achieved a notable milestone: 26 consecutive months of growth since September 2022. This sustained progress highlights the destination’s appeal and strategic approach to tourism development.
“This milestone of 26 consecutive months of positive growth is a proud moment for Grenada. It reflects not only the resilience and determination of our tourism stakeholders but also the allure of our island as a destination that captivates the imagination of travelers,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, in a press statement. “Our success lies in the seamless fusion of authenticity, innovation, and strategic vision—from creating unforgettable experiences that honor our rich heritage to forging critical partnerships that enhance connectivity and visibility. As we celebrate this achievement, we remain laser-focused on driving sustainable growth, ensuring Grenada continues to inspire and delight visitors from around the globe.”
Grenada’s Growth Curve
The growth trajectory began with USA Today recognizing Paradise Beach in Carriacou and Grand Anse Beach. In 2023, Grenada’s focus on sustainable tourism and improved air connectivity resulted in a 30 percent increase in first-quarter arrivals. December 2023 saw a record-breaking 20,000 visitor arrivals in a single month.
The momentum continued into 2024, with a 17 percent year-over-year visitor increase. February 2024 stood out with 19,608 arrivals, a 31.7 percent rise from the previous year, boosted by the island’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Key factors contributing to this growth include:
- Enhanced Air Access: New and expanded routes from JetBlue, Air Canada, interCaribbean, LIAT 2020, Sunrise Airways and the recently announced WestJet have improved connectivity from major markets.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Grenada hosted the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Sustainable Tourism Conference and received the Destination Resilience Award, reinforcing its commitment to eco-friendly practices.
- Global Recognition: The destination garnered awards from Condé Nast Traveler and USA Today and hosted a James Beard Foundation dinner, appealing to diverse traveler interests.
- Luxury Accommodations: Six Senses and Silversands Beach House’s opening has elevated Grenada’s luxury travel profile.
- Underwater Attractions: The expansion of the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park and the launch of the Carriacou Underwater Sculpture Park have strengthened Grenada’s position as a diving destination.
- Media Exposure: Increased press visits have generated new content highlighting Grenada’s unique offerings.
- Film and TV Productions: The island has attracted shows like The Fortune Hotel, Below Deck and The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which have introduced Grenada to a wider audience.
- Tour Operator Partnerships: The 4th Annual Tour Operators Marketplace provided firsthand experiences of Grenada to overseas operators, fostering relationships and driving bookings.
Along with these developments, innovative marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships have contributed to Grenada’s tourism growth. The island has also seen increases in visitor spend and length of stay.
“The journey to 26 months of continuous growth has been driven by a clear vision and exceptional teamwork,” Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority, Randall Dolland, said in the press statement. “Grenada’s ability to attract and retain visitors is a direct reflection of the dedication of our stakeholders, the richness of our culture, and the enduring allure of our natural beauty. This achievement inspires us to reach even greater heights.”
