Beginning December 2017, travel agents can earn up to 25 percent commission on America’s Trains Inc. (ATs) all-inclusive, luxury train vacation bookings. The company offers 4- to 8-night Journey by Rail vacations on elegant, rebuilt passenger cars that travel to and layover at en-route destinations throughout the United States and into Canada.
Commissions start at 12 percent and can increase up to 22 percent when at least seven sales are made in a 6-month period. Additional overrides are paid for simultaneous multiple sales starting at 1 percent and increasing to 3 percent for four sales, giving agents the possibility to earn 25 percent commission for every sale. In lieu of earning commission, agents can retain all sales revenue in excess of a net cost, which allows them to determine what the sales price will be. Agents can earn about $1,560 for the sale of a single $13,000 8-day journey for two passengers in a Deluxe Master Suite, which increases to $2,860 for current and all prior sales if seven sales are made over six months. Earnings grow to over $3,200 per sale if multiple sales are made at the same time.
ATs states its fares are about 30 percent below average prices for comparable luxury train vacations in other countries. The company offers a Circle America itinerary from Chicago to Seattle (Dec. 16, 2017); Seattle to Vancouver (Dec. 24, 2017); Seattle to Los Angeles (Dec. 30, 2017); Los Angeles to Chicago (Jan. 6, 2018); Chicago to New York (Jan. 13, 2018); and New York to Miami (Jan. 20, 2018).
Because of initial inventory limitations that may prevent agents from selling the number of journeys necessary to reach higher commission levels, the amounts that ATs is paying early participating agents for their first sale(s) is the amount normally paid if multiple sales have already been made, up to 22 percent of the journey fare.
