5. The Fantauzzo

Art Series Hotels will open its eighth property at Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves in March 2019. Named after acclaimed Australian painter Vincent Fantauzzo, The Fantauzzo will feature 166 guestrooms, four food and beverage outlets, three conference rooms, and a rooftop pool. On the outside, guests will notice that The Fantauzzo is a blend of architecture, art and nature, while the experience continues inside the property with original artwork featured throughout the hotel, plus complimentary art tours, libraries, and in-room art channels.

4. The Westin Brisbane

The Westin Brisbane recently opened the doors to its 299-guestroom luxury property. The Westin is part of a larger mixed-use development and occupies the first 16 floors of the building. Features of the property include a 24-hour fitness center, a full service spa, an open pool deck with a bar, a signature restaurant, and an aviation-inspired jazz bar with craft cocktails and more. The location of The Westin Brisban also makes it easy for guests to explore nearby Queen Street Mall or take a walk to the Eagle Street Pier where they’ll find several fine dining restaurants.

3. voco Gold Coast

InterContinental Hotels Group has launched a new hotel brand with the debut of its first ever voco hotel located in Surfers Paradise. The new 389-guestroom voco Gold Coast offers a spa, a fitness center, seven meeting spaces over three levels, an outdoor pool, plus six bars and restaurants, including one where guests can indulge in afternoon high tea complete with tea, coffee, or champagne and prosciutto, chocolate.

2. Riley

The first of three new five-star resorts in Cairns, Riley by the Crystalbrook Collection opened in late November. Built around an over 1,000-sq.-ft. lagoon-style pool, Riley offers three restaurants, a rooftop bar, a 24-hour fitness center, a spa, and six event spaces which can hold up to 440 guests cocktail style or 280 seated. Riley is a 311-guestroom and suite property with accommodations designed with the idea that guests’ “hotel experience should feel better than being at home.”

1. Ovolo The Valley

The former Emporium Hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley recently reopened as Ovolo The Valley, a self-proclaimed “whimsical oasis” inspired by art, music, and pop culture. The hotel features 103 guestrooms, including its Rockstar Suites, a rooftop pool, and a new restaurant led by chef Justin North that is set to open in early 2019.
