Travel advisors will sightsee in Addis Ababa, visiting such sights as the National Museum of Ethiopia, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Ethnographic Museum of Ethiopia, and the Merkato Open Air Market. There’s also the opportunity to take a boat trip on Lake Tana, with its 37 islands, 32 of them with churches and monasteries; to visit the Blue Nile Falls; and to sightsee in Gondar, with its dozen castles built by various emperors over the course of 236 years.
In Simien Mountain National Park, you’ll be driven to Sankaber for the best views, and en-route, you’ll pass through picturesque countryside. Of course, there’s a UNESCO World Heritage site on the must-visit list, Axum, the capital of the long Axumite reign, one of the oldest African empires. There you’ll visit the Granite stone Stele of Axum, the Tombs of King Kaleb and his son King G/Meskel, the Ezana’s stone inscriptions, Queen of Sheba’s palace and swimming pool, and the Church of Zion, the final resting place of the True Ark of Covenant.
Exploring Lalibela means marveling at the Ethiopian orthodox Christian churches, are one of the eight wonders of the world. One of the trip’s many highlights is trekking to Asheten Mariam, a 13th century monastery located at an altitude of 13,000 ft.
