American Queen Voyages is putting the “If You Build It, They Will Come” theory to the test with the launch of a “Field of Dreams” experience on its popular Upper Mississippi cruises. Sports fans and movie lovers soon can add a special shore excursion that takes them to many of the locations where the 1989 Hollywood blockbuster was filmed in and around Dubuque, Iowa. The new outing is available on select 8- and 9-day sailings between St. Louis and Minneapolis through October.

In a press statement, Isis Ruiz, chief commercial officer at American Queen Voyages, said the new excursion promises to add “even more memorable moments on this popular Upper Mississippi River itinerary.” A local guide will take travelers to visit several original film locations, including the farm and original baseball diamond in nearby Dyersville, where guests will be able to walk out on the pitch and sit in the bleachers. Other stops include the local elementary school, the University of Dubuque and the special exhibition “If You Build It” to see behind-the-scenes photographs from the making Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta.

The Field of Dreams Experience is available on journeys between St. Louis and Minneapolis aboard the American Queen, American Duchess and American Countess that embark July 18, July 30, Aug. 28, Sept. 10, Sept. 11, Sept. 24, Sept. 26 and Oct. 16, 2022. The excursion is $99 per person.

American Queen Voyages is offering an Independence Day Sale, where cruises from St. Louis to Minneapolis start at $1,350 if booked by July 14, 2022. And guests can save up to $2,000 per stateroom on select 2022, 2023 and 2024 sailings as part of another promotion: Summer of Discovering Savings.
